Have you ever seen things on the golf course that you wonder what they are for? Like a rake in the bunker? A green bin on the tee box? Let us chat about what to do with all this!
We will call this etiquette part 2 - on the golf course. A lot of these are around the green or the tee box, so let's start from the furthest point back! On the tee box, you may notice a green bin and that has sand and seed. This is used in divots to help the grass grow back. Take a scoop, sprinkle it in a divot, and press it down a little with your foot!
You may also see little cups or baskets beside the tee markers. These are used to collect tees. If you notice you broke your tee, put it in the basket to help with cleaning up. Some golf courses do not have these so you can leave your tee where it lies or throw it beside the tee markers as well.
In the fairway you can also repair your divots. If you are riding or walking, some golf courses will have containers with the same sand and seed in them as the bins. If they have these then you can fill your divots the same as on the tee box! If they do not, just leave the divot. If you end up taking a big chunk of grass, you can grab it and replace it where you hit your ball and the grass will come back.
In the fairway or by the green there will be bunkers. There will mostly always be a rake around the bunker and you will need that after your shot! After you hit your shot, you want to rake away the evidence you were in there. Go over where you walked, where you hit and any other marks around. This helps smooth out the sand for the next player. To allow for less raking, enter at a point close to your golf ball and follow that path out of the bunker too!
On the green you will want to fix your divots (ball mark). Have you ever seen in the pro shop that there are divot tools for sale or some places have complementary ones? You will need one of these to repair your ball mark (a tee also works but does not do as good of a job). You want to push the grass back to where it was before the ball landed there. You may also find more marks on the green and you can fix those too! It helps the golf gods be on your side!
